The Benefits of Using a CCTV System

CCTV cameras are everywhere these days, but what do you know about how they work? If you’re concerned about the safety of your workplace or home, it might be time to invest in a CCTV system. Learn about the benefits of using a CCTV system here, as well as some common myths that often prevent people from taking action to protect their property and family.

Why use a CCTV system?

There are many benefits to using a CCTV system in your business, including increased safety and security, prevention of employee theft, improved efficiency, decreased costs and more. Here are just some of them

How do CCTV systems work?

CCTV systems—short for closed-circuit television—are composed of cameras that transmit their footage to monitors or recorders. They’re incredibly useful surveillance tools, but there are also plenty of other benefits to using them.

What equipment do I need?

The first thing you’ll need to consider when setting up your CCTV system is what equipment you want to use. This will depend on how many cameras you want in your network, what range you want them to have, and how much money you want to spend. To get started, here are some useful tips

Do I need to employ someone to install the CCTV system?

Some people will know how to install CCTV cameras but if you don’t and you’re not interested in doing it yourself then you might want to employ someone to do it for you. The person will be able to offer a professional service and they should also be able to help with any questions or queries that arise along the way. It’s always better to get someone who knows what they are doing than it is getting someone who has no experience or background knowledge when it comes to installing CCTV systems.

How do I know if my CCTV system is working correctly?

Now that you have your CCTV system set up, how do you know if it’s working correctly? CCTV systems that aren’t maintained properly can provide false information. This doesn’t mean you should be checking on your surveillance system every 5 minutes, but it does mean that you should monitor when something appears out of place or is not doing what it is supposed to do. Check to see if these things are happening: 1) Are you able to connect to your camera and view live footage?

Should I purchase and install the system myself or should I have it installed by an installer?

Whether you’re considering purchasing and installing your own system or paying an installer to do it for you, there are several factors to consider. There is only one factor that will win out above all others: convenience. If a DIY setup is convenient, then that’s how you should proceed. After all, a CCTV system is likely going to be up and running in one place only and will not be moved around frequently like an office computer might be.

Where should my cameras be located?

Although most people think about their front door when thinking about adding a CCTV system, there are many more areas in your home or business that would benefit from having security cameras installed. So where should your cameras be located? If you’re like most people, you don’t want to draw attention to your security system by putting visible cctv cameras on display. Instead, look for opportunities to place hidden cameras that still effectively monitor commonly used rooms and routes throughout your property.

How do I get started with installing my own CCTV camera system?

The first step is to go online and find a great camera for your security. Once you have chosen one, you will need to select how many cameras are needed for your home or business. The average home would be 2 - 4 cameras depending on how large your home is. A good guide that I follow is I want my front door covered, 1-2 outdoor cameras, and at least 1 indoor camera which should cover as much of my property as possible.
